Right Brain Initiative

We are excited to be a part of the Right Brain Initiative once again this year!  This is the fifth year that we have received this art grant called "The
Right Brain Initiative."
The grant provides money to our school in order for children to have art experiences under the guidance of professional artists in residence.

The purpose of the Right Brain Initiative is to achieve a measurable impact on learning by integrating the community's arts and cultural resources into the education of every K-8 student in the region's school districts.  We are fortunate to be one of the thirty plus schools in five different school districts to be a part of this initiative!

There are four main goals for The Right Brain Initiative

  • Integration: Teachers, artists, art specialists and other members of the school community will work together as partners to integrate art education and other curriculum areas.
  • Equity: All students will have access to quality experiences in multiple art forms.
  • Art Processes: Students will create and perform/exhibit works of art and reflect upon works of art created by themselves and others.
  • TheRight Brain Initiativehas expanded our view of literacy to include the four C's: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking.  These are the skills children need to succeed in the 21st Century and we have included the four C's in our work with our artists and children.

Our Right Brain work is sponsored by the Regional Arts & Culture Council and Gresham-Barlow School District.  We are excited to be a part of this artistic and literacy rich endeavor.
